PURPOSE:To obtain a sensor having no possibility of breakage without the need for specially exercising prudent care and without using special auxiliary implements in the stage of polishing the end face of a photoconductor by integrally depositing a rigid and heat resistant coating layer for reinforcement via a heat resistant binder layer on the photoconductor at least near one end face thereof. CONSTITUTION:The photoconductor 2 is made of quartz glass having excellent optical characteristics and if formed to an extremely fine bar shape or fiber state. The protective layer 4 covering the outside periphery of the photoconductor 2 consists of, for example, the coating of a silicone polymer having the excellent resistance to heat and electricity. On the other hand, the rigid and heat resistant coating layer 5 covers the outside peripheral surface of a photodetecting surface 2a and light radiating surface 2b of the photoconductor 2 near the same and consists of, for example, a stainless steel tube. The coating layer encloses the photoconductor 2 to an integral construction with the aid of the heat resistant binder layer 6 and therefore the bending-resistant strength with which the photoconductor is not easily broken even when subjected to considerably large impulsive bending force during polishing of the end face is obtd. |
