PURPOSE:To improve considerably the hysteresis phenomenon of a Ti-Mn alloy for storing hydrogen and to increase the amount of hydrogen stored in the alloy by adding a specified small amount of C or N to the alloy or further adding a specified metallic component. CONSTITUTION:0.02-1% C and/or N is added to a Ti-Mn alloy consisting of 30-50% Ti and 50-70% Mn, or 0.02-1% C and/or N and <=40% one or two among V, Cr, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Mo, Zr, Nb, La, Ce and misch metal (Mm) are added to a Ti-Mn alloy consisting of 20-50% Ti and 20-70% Mn. A hydrogen storing alloy having a small difference between hydrogen occluding pressure and releasing pressure, an improved hysteresis phenomenon and large hydrogen storing capacity is obtd.
