<p>The invention relates to new compounds of formula I and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts. In the formula Z completes a bond or is an oxygen atom or a group of formula in which R and R6 are hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl. Typical values of X1 X2, X3 and X4 are hydrogen, methoxy, hydroxy, bromine, n-propyl, tert.-butyl, carboxyl ethoxycarbonyl, 4-hydroxyphenyl, amino, dimethylamino and acetylamino. Typically R1 and R2 together form an oxo group or the one is hydrogen and the other is hydroxyl. Typically one of R3 and R4 is hydrogen and the other is methyl, n-propyl, phenyl, 3,4-dihydroxyphenyl, pyridyl or carboxyl, or R3 and R4 are both methyl. The compounds are active in lowering cholesterol and trigylcerides, in increasing the total serum HDL cholesterol and in increasing the ratio between .alpha.-lipoprotein and .beta.-lipoprotein total cholesterol.</p> |
