PURPOSE:The titled emulsion having a dispersed phase of fine polymer particles of a specified bilayer structure composed of a core comprising a relatively flexible copolymer and a shell comprising a relatively rigid copolymer. CONSTITUTION:A thermosetting polymer emulsion is formed by using a dispersed phase of bilayer structure fine polymer particles (average particle diameter of 0.02-0.3mu) prepared by coating a core (>=50wt%) comprising a relatively flexible copolymer comprising (A) 1-20wt% (meth)acrylamide (derivative), (B) 4-70wt% hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate (e.g., hydroxyethyl acrylate), and (C) 10-95wt% other alpha,beta-ethylenically unsaturated monomer (e.g., styrene, methyl acrylate or vinyl chloride) with a shell (<=50wt%) comprising a relatively rigid (co)polymer containing at least 10wt% monomer C.
