The present invention relates to a block for the expression of catechol 2,3-oxygenase in a yeast, characterized in that it comprises in the reading direction and with the correct orientation at least: - a yeast promoter, the gene xylE and - a yeast terminator. By integration of the expression block into a plasmide and transformation of a yeast, transformants capable of producing C 2,3-O are obtained.
