A belt drive, preferably a positive belt drive with an endless belt guided over a driving pulley and a driven pulley, one side of which belt is guided over a pulley which can be moved transversely to the direction of belt-running and the other side of which is guided over a pulley which can be adjusted transversely to the direction of belt-running, the movable pulley compensating the change in length of the side guided over the adjustable pulley due to the adjustment movement of this pulley in the other side, either by means of a preload pressing the movable pulley against the belt or by means of positive coupling to the adjustment movement of the adjustable pulley, with which a phase shift between the driving pulley and the driven pulley can be set. <IMAGE>
