PURPOSE:An overlay alloy used in a sliding bearing with an overlay for an internal combustion engine excellent in compatibility and abrasion resistance, obtained by preparing an alloy from lead, tin, indium and thallium in a specific ratio. CONSTITUTION:An alloy containing, on a wt. basis, 2-10% Sn, 10-15% of at least one of In and Tl (either one of In and Tl exceeds 10% and the sum amount thereof is 15% or less) and, if necessary, 0.05-5.0% of at least one element amoung Cu, Sb, Mn, Ni, Ca, Bi and Ba and comprising the remainder of Pb and inevitable impurities is prepared. By this method, an overlay alloy excellent in abrasion resistance and compatibility is obtained.
