PURPOSE:To obtain the titled extract economically in an industrial scale, by concentrating the decocted liquid of a gramineous plant having various drug actions, mixing the liquid with a medium effective for raising the boiling point to obtain the first concentrated extract, increasing the viscosity of the original concentrated liquid with the first extract, and concentrating the obtained mixture to afford the final concentrated extract. CONSTITUTION:Decocted and concentrated liquid of a gramineous plant such as rice, barley, adlay, etc. is added with a medium effective for raising the boiling point (e.g., 0.1% sodium carbonate, superheated steam, etc.), and heated at an effective temperature lower than the caramelization temperature (200 deg.C), e.g. at 120-160 deg.C for 6-12hr to obtain the first concentrated extract. A concentrated extract prepared by the same process is added with a small amount of the above first concentrated extract to raise the viscosity, and the mixture is heated, added with hot water, and boiled. The supernatant liquid is separated and again concentrated by boiling to obtain the final concentrate. A large amount of a concentrated extract can be prepared effectively, with a simple procedure, without using a particular solvent, by raising the viscosity of the decocted solution, and concentrating the solution at a high temperature.
