PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound useful as an intermediate of agricultural chemicals and pharmaceuticals, especially as an intermediate of an anti- inflammatory agent, economically in an industrial scale, by reacting easily available 4-(thiocarbamoyloxy)acetophenone with 1,2-dichloroethyl acetate, etc. CONSTITUTION:4-(2-Thiazolyloxy)acetophenone of formula VI can be prepared by reacting (A) 4-(thiocarbamoyloxy)acetophenone of formula I obtained e.g. by the reaction of 4-acetylphenol with a halocyan with (B) the compound of formula II, the compound of formula III, the compound of formula IV (R is lower alkyl), or the compound of formula V. The reaction is carried out preferably in an organic solvent such as dioxane, methanol, ethanol, acetone, etc. under acidic condition at 60-70 deg.C
