Bicyclic compounds of the general formula <IMAGE> in which R<1> and R<2> represent hydrogen, the acyl radical of an organic acid having 1-7 C atoms, an unsubstituted or substituted C1-8-alkyl, C3-8-cycloalkyl, C2-6-alkenyl or heterocyclic radical, a carboxyl, C1-3-alkoxycarbonyl, carbamoyl, C1-3-alkylcarbamoyl or a di(C1-3-alkyl)carbamoyl group and X represents the radical of an organic compound bonded via a sulphur, oxygen or nitrogen atom, their easily hydrolysable esters and salts and hydrates of these compounds. The compounds are suitable for the treatment or prophylaxis of infectious diseases.
