A basic storage stove designed as a system construction consists of an accessible, closable sheet metal housing and prefabricated plate elements of refractory material to be built into the housing at the place of installation. The housing simultaneously acts as the shuttering when the plate elements are built in, and it then contains a free-standing storage set and a fire chamber set of the said plate elements, which can be easily assembled even by a layman. Because of the accessibility of the housing, even relatively extensive maintenance and repairs after extended operating periods are absolutely without problems, in contrast to basic stoves containing permanent brick arrangements of conventional design. The sealed nature of the housing permits the inner construction to be effected substantially by loose superposition or fitting together or clamping of the plate elements. The system construction moreover permits numerous variants as regards size and possible combination of partial stoves for the heating of a plurality of adjacent rooms. <IMAGE>
