PURPOSE:To improve wear resistance, etc. by providing a protective layer consisting of a (co)polymer of >=1 kind of specific monomers contg. respectively an epoxy group, long-chain alkyl or long-chain fluorinated alkyl on a thin ferromagnetic metallic film formed by vapor deposition, etc. on a nonmagnetic base. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic recording medium is manufactured by coating a (co)polymer of >=1 kind of monomers expressed by the formulas I , II, III (R1 is H or alkyl, R2 and R3 are alkylene and CH2, CH2CH2, C3H6, etc., M is H or F, n is >=5) on a thin ferromagnetic metallic film 2 of Co and Ni, etc. formed on a base 1 of a high polymer film of polyimide, polyester, etc. to form a protective layer 3 thereon. The epoxy group improves the adhesion between the magnetic layer 2 and the protective layer 3 and the long-chain alkyl group and fluorinated alkyl group improve the wear resistance of the layer 3. The recording medium having a long life is thus obtd. |
