PURPOSE:To record with a density being controlled to be optimum from a beginning stage of recording, by a method wherein solid transfer or test pattern recording is conducted, and a recording head is controlled in accordance with the thus obtained recorded density, in a thermal transfer or thermal recording type printer. CONSTITUTION:Prior to recording, a solid transfer command in a predetermined range is given from a controller 7 to a head-driving circuit 8 to conduct solid transfer on a leading end part of a recording paper 2. The density of the solid- transferred part (b) is detected through photo-electrical conversion by a reflective-type or transmissive-type photosensor 8, and the thus detected value and a value set by a reference density setter 9 in accordance with a reference density are compared with each other by a comparing circuit 10. A density-correcting compand is given to the head-driving circuit through a correcting circuit 11 so that the detected value and the set value become equal to each other, thereby appropriately adjust the magnitude of the voltage impressed on the recording head 3, and thereafter, recording based on recording data is started. |
