A paling element with a number of vertical grating bars 34 and horizontal holding rails 36 is produced as an integrated double-shell construction made of fibreglass- reinforced polyester by bonding together two identical shell bodies which are made with semitubular parts which, when the shells are assembled, form the grating bars 34 and the holding rails 36. In this way, a strong and lightweight paling element is produced, which is maintenance-free. <IMAGE>
