An rano-magnesium solution of low viscosity was prepared from a hydrocarbon-soluble dialkyl magnesium compd. of C4-C20 (I); solvent selected from C5-C20 aliphatic, cyclic or aromatic hydrocarbon(II); and an organo-metal additive(III) selected from R3Ga, R3In or RLi, where R = C1-C12 alkyl or C5-C7 cycloalkyl gp. Concn. of (I) is approx. 0.2-50 wt.%, and the mole ratio of (III) to (I) is 0.001:1- 0.25:1. The methylation of aromatics, etc.
