The invention relates to a rope-untwisting device having at least one carrier which is rotatable about an axis to eliminate the twist and through which the rope passes and in which rollers acting on the rope and deflecting it are mounted rotatably. In the known untwisting device, either the rollers in the carrier grip the rope too firmly, so that sensitive rope material undergoes damage, or the rollers exert too little influence on the rope, thus resulting in unsatisfactory untwisting where a pronounced twist or a particular rope material are concerned. This is avoided, according to the invention, in that the carrier is a ring, in which are mounted internally and parallel to the ring plane at least three rollers, the roller shell generatrices of which form with one another a regular polygon, ideally a circle, in that the ring can be driven in rotation about the mid-axis of the ring, and in that the mid-axis of the ring is inclined obliquely relative to the direction of travel of the rope before entry into the ring. In this design, the rope is untwisted carefully and nevertheless effectively.
