Magnetic metal-alloy pigment is prepared by coating 0.2-30 wt.% of ortho-ester silicate(I), its hydrolysis product, or a condensation product on magnetic metal or its alloy. The chemical formula of (I) is (RO)nSi(OR')4-n, where R = oxygen bridge, C1-C20 alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, aryl or aralkyl gp.; R1 = C1-C4 alkyl gp.; and n = 0-4. Corrosion resistance of the pigment is increased by adding a corrosion inhibitor such as a higher amine, aldehyde, alcohol, ketone, etc.
