The invention relates to a carrier roll for self-supporting aerial cables which are to be laid on pylons, which carrier roll consists of a roll, a shaft, and two carrier brackets which are supported on this shaft such that they can pivot. Known carrier rolls of this type have elongated holes in the carrier brackets for suspension of the roll on pylon hooks. They can thus be suspended only in open hooks, must be pivoted for suspension in the case of so-called swinging hooks and can be suspended on closed rings, eyes and the like only by means of separate intermediate elements. In order to be able to suspend the carrier roll easily on any desired open or closed attachment means, it is provided according to the invention that each carrier bracket (4, 5) has a hook (6, 7), at the upper end, with an opening (8, 9) on the side. These openings (8, 9) may be directed towards the same side or may also be arranged such that the opening (8) of the one hook (6) points to the left and that of the other points to the right. The carrier brackets (4, 5) consist of steel plate and are provided in the region of their external contour with a circumferential stamping (10, 11) which forms a brace away from the roll (1). <IMAGE>
