PURPOSE:To effectively and readily recover and conserve coal liquefying solvent in high efficiency by mixing a solvent and coal followed by heating to solubilize the coal, carrying out a hydrogenation, then mixing the solubilized product and its hydrogenated product followed by fractionation in a specific condition. CONSTITUTION:A solvent and coal are mixed followed by heating to solubilize the coal, which is then hydrogenated in the presence of a catalyst. Subsequently, the solubilized product and the fraction with a boiling point <320 deg.C contained in the hydrogenated product are mixed on stirring, the resulting mixture being kept for at least 30sec. Said mixture is then distilled to obtain the fraction with a boiling point <320 deg.C as the final product. On the other hand, the fraction with a boiling point 320-450 deg.C is subjected to recycling use as the liquefying solvent in solubilization, whereas the fraction with a boiling point >=450 deg.C is brought to a catalytic hydrogenation.
