PURPOSE:To obtain a sintered body which has less defects such as chipping, cracking, etc. and has excellent strength by adding moisture under a specific condition to a powder mixture composed of ceramic powder and powdery org. material, liquiefying the org. material and drying, molding and sintering the mixture. CONSTITUTION:A powdery org. material is added and mixed at about 0.5- 5wt%, as a binder, to and with ceramic powder or metallic powder and the mixture is heated in a high humidity atmosphere at a temp. of the m.p. of the org. material or below to liquefy the org. material under addition of the moisture. The heated mixture is dried and is then molded and sintered. Uranium dioxide, silicon carbide, etc. are used for the ceramic powder or metallic powder and the size of the flocculated grains thereof is adjusted to about 10-1,500mu prior to mixing. Hydroxycarboxylic acid powder is used for the org. material and a citric acid is more particularly preferably used. The powder mixture is liquefied under addition of moisture at about 50 deg.C and about 60-90% relative humidity in the case of the citric acid.
