In a first machining step, the cuttings are removed in the form of scrap material (7) which are between neighbouring pieces to be punched (1', 1'') on the starting material. The remaining material bridges (5) are separated or punched out later on in a second machining step. Said method enables to bring closer to each other the contour of neighbouring pieces to be punched (1', 1'') up to a spacing (x) equal or smaller than the thickness of the material. With respect to conventional punching methods where the punched out portion is removed and not the scrap material as it is the case here, it is possible to save as much as 25 % of the material. The punched parts thus formed are used particularly to be further machined as parts of container walls, for example closure lids for cans or covers for battery casings. |
