PURPOSE:To improve cell properties by micronizing carbon particles, beforehand, until making them approximately equal size to that of fluororesin particles by electromagnetically powdering and mixing treatment and thereafter enabling the carbon particles to mix uniformly with the fluororesin particles by using a catalyst supporting a noble metal. CONSTITUTION:A treating container 6 is filled with carbon particles 9 and working pieces 8 composed of very hard ferromagnetic material. Randam motion is caused to said pieces 8 by electromagnetic force based on the interaction with moving magnetic field owing to the magnetic field action of a moving magnetic field generating device 9 and 10 equipped at both outer ends of the container 6 and thereby the particles 9 are powdering-mixing-treated. Thus, carbon particles 13 with approximately equal particle size to that of fluororesin (PTFE) particles 14 are obtained. A catalyst is produced supporting noble metal carrier on the particles 13 and disperse solution obtained by the addition of the particles 14 to this catalyst is applied on an electrode substrate 2 and there after dried, burned and thus a gas diffusion electrode 11 is formed. Thus, particles 13 and 14 can be uniformly mixed and cell performance can be maintained stably for a long term. |
