PURPOSE:To manufacture perfluorodicarboxylic acid fluoride in a high yield by electrolytically fluorinating cyclic ester represented by a specified formula in liq. hydrogen fluoride. CONSTITUTION:Cyclic ester represented by the formula (where R is 1-15C aliphatic hydrocarbon group) is electrolytically fluorinated in liq. hydrogen fluoride to obtain perfluorodicarboxylic acid fluoride represented by a formula FOCRfCOF (where Rf is 1-15C aliphatic perfluorocarbon group). The cyclic ester can be arbitrarily selected in accordance with the desired perfluorocarboxylic acid fluoride, and gamma-butyrolactone, delta-valerolactone or the like is suitable for use as the starting material. The starting material is mixed with liq. hydrogen fluoride by about 3-20wt.%, and electrolytic fluorination is carried out at about 0.01-10A/dm<2> current density and about -20-80 deg.C electrolytic temp. under ordinary pressure while stirring.
