PURPOSE:To improve the reliability of a magnetic disk subsystem by storing the update information on the volume into a semiconductor memory incorporated to a magnetic disk controller and gives a concentrated control to the information through the magnetic disk controller. CONSTITUTION:The normal information is supplied to a magnetic disk controller 2 through a channel 1 and written to magnetic disk devices 3-5 via a switching circuit 7, an error detecting circuit 10 and a data transmitting/receiving circuit 11. When the volume update information is supplied from a channel 1, a control circuit 8 delivers a switch control signal to the circuit 7 to send the update information to a memory control circuit 6. Then the update information is stored in a semiconductor memory 9 from the circuit 6. If some magnetic disk device has a fault, the defective disk is excluded to continue the processing since the update information is concentrically controlled by the memory 9. |
