PURPOSE:To prevent deviation from regularity and realize a precise control by correcting a control means on a specific operational condition for the captioned control device which performs a multistage control of valve timing by means of a step motor. CONSTITUTION:Valve timing is controlled through moving roller bearings 44, 46 in slits 42, 40, formed on an outer sleeve 36 driven by means of a crankshaft 10 and an inner sleeve 38 connected to a cam shaft 18, by means of a stop motor 50 according to operational condition of an engine. Required valve timing is determined by means of an engine operational condition detection means 600, and whether or not an operational condition is appropriate for performing initialization of valve timing is decided by means of a decision means. In case of performing initialization, a mobile body 48 is once pressed to a stopper 36a or 50a and, through rotating by several steps, moved to a position of initialization slightly separated from the stopper to perform it. Correction of a control means 606 is performed in every initialization. |
