PURPOSE:To detect boundary length with high accuracy by finding the boundary length of a closed area by using a boundary length fixed by the pattern of five picture element points adjacent to a boundary line. CONSTITUTION:A 3X3 picture cutting-out section 7 inputs the data string of present scanning line, that of the precedes scanning line, and that of before the preceded scanning line and cuts out the pictures of three picture element points in both horizontal and vertical directions, and then, output eight neighboring points adjacent to a noticeable point together with the noticeable point. A pattern detecting section 8 inputs the noticeable point and eight neighboring points and detects the boundary pattern in the vertical and right-left directions of the noticeable point. In thie case, a total of 36 kinds of boundary patterns can be defined by using five neighboring points in the upward direction of the noticeable point. A boundary length calculating section 11 inputs boundary length calculating data and calculates a boundary length in accordance with the inputted data. A cumultive boundary length calculating section 12 finds the whole boundary length of a closed area by finding the component of the whole closed area by adding the length of vertical and right-left directions at every direction obtained by the calculating section 11. |
