In a livestock drinking trough with a swivel bow for actuating the valve, which bow extends through the centre of the trough shell, can be operated on two sides and is mounted on both sides of the trough shell, the aim is to produce with simple means valve actuation which is not very susceptible to wear and manufacturing tolerances. To achieve this aim, it is proposed that the swivel bow is provided with a cam which stands perpendicularly to the axis of rotation and which, during swivelling of the swivel bow out of the central position, slides along a curve which is directed towards the closing direction of the valve and fixed in relation to the trough shell, and displaces the swivel bow along the axis of rotation towards the valve and towards the pressure spring of the valve, and the swivel bow is provided, in the region of the axis of rotation, with a surface directed towards the actuating member of the valve.
