The invention relates to a device for regulating the transport of material in piles in rotary pile feeders, as used in folding machines, for example. The aim of the invention is to regulate the transport of material in piles, while avoiding constant speed fluctuations arising during scanning of the front edge of the pile of sheets and also interruptions in the drawing off of sheets as a result of separator devices. The object is to determine the regulating size for the transport of piles via the number of fed sheets, while eliminating the influence of variations in the degree of imbrication. According to the invention, a stop for the fed sheets is placed at the end of the transport path in the required position for the sheet drawing-off means in order to form a flat preliminary pile. Contact-free scanning of the position of the top sheet and actuation of a correcting element to regulate the transport of material in piles are by means of a capacitive scanning head.
