ONE SIDE WELDING METHOD IN ANGLE PART OF BOX STRUCTURE

PURPOSE:To perform welding in an angle part from only the one side and to obtain a weld zone of penetration by bringing a refractory backing material coated thereon with a flux on the surface of a hollow steel pipe into contact with the rear of a groove via glass fibers and welding the groove from the front side. CONSTITUTION:A side plate 2 is beveled 6 to have a root part 7 on the side face in the longitudinal direction and is tack-welded in contact with a side plate 1. A backing strip 8 is inserted via glass fibers 9 into the scallop part of the restraining plate 10 of the plate 1 and is pressed to a penetration bead forming part by using a wedge 11. The side plates are subjected to gas shielded arc welding or submerged arc welding from the surface. The weld zone having penetration beads is surely obtd. over the entire length of welding.
