To ensure correct call charge calculation in telecommunications switching systems with time pulse metering, the function of the devices (ZR, AS) involved in the transmission of the time pulses must be tested on a regular basis. Since this test can be carried out above all only in low-traffic time slots, the test time per device must be minimised if there are a large number of devices to be tested, in order to ensure that the devices can be retested at time intervals which are not too long. The proposed method allows the testing time to be reduced by carrying out a systematic test of the connection between the clock lines (T1...Tn), corresponding to the different charge zones, and the actual time pulse transmission devices (AS, ZR). This method is independent of the interval between the pulses on the clock lines (T1...Tn), and therefore tariff matching or the introduction of a tariff changeover has no effect on the test procedure. <IMAGE>
