The subject matter of the invention is a device for producing hot water, having heat recovery and a separate heating device for burning fossil or gaseous fuels and containing a heat-dissipating unit, for example in the form of a heat pump unit or a cooling unit, a heat exchanger, a service water accumulator and a boiler. The heat exchanger consists of a condenser having coiled tubes, which are arranged coaxially one inside another and are connected to the heat-dissipating unit, on the one hand, and to the service water accumulator as well as to the boiler, on the other hand. The service water tank contains a horizontal partition which subdivides the tank into an upper and lower tank section, the service water heated via the heat exchanger being optionally introduced, via a three-way valve, below the partition into the lower tank section, or directly into the service water extraction pipeline. A four-way valve coupled to the hot-water circuit permits switching over from heating operation to heat recovery operation as a function of the physical conditions in the heat exchanger in order to maintain a minimum water temperature in the heat exchanger and a minimum condensation pressure, resulting therefrom, on the cooling side of the heat exchanger, and to maintain the temperature difference required for the heat exchange.
