<p>PURPOSE:In packing vegetables and fruits in a closed container, to remove effectively a bad smell (amine smell, semll of rotten protein, etc.) apt to be evolved during preservation, by adding a polymer having high water absorption and a slightly water-soluble adsorbent to it. CONSTITUTION:About 0.01-3wt% polymer having high water absorption (e.g., polyacrylate prepared by suspension polymerization in reversed phase) based on new weight of vegetables and fruits and a slightly water-soluble adsorbent (e.g., active carbon or molded article of carbon fiber) are added to a closed container (e.g., plastic film bag, plastic container, corrugated cardboard box subjected to air impermeable coating, etc.) putting vegetables and fruits in it (a ratio of the polymer having high water absorption to the slightly water-soluble adsorbent is preferably 1/500-500/1). The above-mentioned method is especially effective for application to closed packaging of cruciferous plants (e.g., broccoli).</p> |
