NEW MATERIAL:An ester derivative show by the formula I (R is H, or methyl; A is group shown by the formula II, formula III, or formula IV). EXAMPLE:Ibuprofen propylene glycol monoester. USE:Having antiphlogistic analgesic action, useful as a drug. Free from side effects such as gastrointestinal disorder followed by occurrence of ulcer. PREPARATION:For example, a carboxylic acid shown by the formula V or its reactive derivative is reacted with a diol compound shown by the formula VI or its reactive derivative, to give a compound shown by the formula I . Ibuprofen, alclofenac, etc. may be cited as the carboxylic acid shown by the formula V, and an acid halogenide, acid anhydride, etc. as its reactive derivative. The reaction is preferably carried out in the presence of a deoxidizer such as a tertiary amine, e.g., pyridine, trimethylamine, etc., alkali hydroxide, etc. in a solvent such as ether, tetrahydrofuran, etc.
