In the basis weight measuring instrument according to the invention, the measuring head 4 is supported by a fixed device part 9 via support arms 13 and 14 of the type of a parallelogram. As a result, only pure pivot bearings 12 and 15 are required for the adjusting movement of a measuring head. Contaminant encrustations formed there are split off during the adjusting movements. The result is that the adjustment of the measuring head is rendered operationally reliable without a high outlay (Figure 3). <IMAGE>
