The present invention relates to a process for recovering and for reforming the octonary elements of metal containers, characterised in that: - in a first phase, the octonary elements crimped on the used lids (covers) are extracted by means of an extraction cone whose apex angle is equal to 16 DEG +/- 5 DEG ; - then, in a second phase, the uncrimped octonary elements are reformed by moving, in the axial direction, presser rollers (pressure guides) 16, 17 over the entire uncrimped part 15 of the octonary element 12 and over its entire circumference, the octonary element being rotationally driven by a mandrel 9. It also relates to the apparatuses used for implementing the said process. <IMAGE>
