发明名称 POLISHING APPARATUS FOR OPTICAL FIBER
摘要 PURPOSE:To eliminate the necessity of demounting an optical fiber core at each time when microscope observation is performed, by allowing a top-edge chuck to be positioned directly over a grindstone or the object glass cylinder of the microscope by revolving an optical fiber holder on a frame. CONSTITUTION:Polishing is performed by using a grindstone 26 having the highest roughness and mounting a core 10 having a fiber 14 onto a chuck 36. At this time, the force of a compression spring 40 acts to press the core 10 onto the grindstone 26. Afterward, polishing is performed by replacing the grindstone 26 having the finer grains and using a buffering device, and in the course a holder 30 is turned leftward and shifted onto a board 68, and a microscope 84 is turned a little around a pivot screw 106, and the edge surface of the core 10 is observed by adjusting the visual field. Polishing is completed when the stripe formed in cutting the edge surface of the fiber 14 is made gradually thinner. The adjustment of visual field is not necessary on and after the second observation. Thus, the necessity of demounting the core from a polishing machine for observing the polishing condition is eliminated.
