PURPOSE:To enable simple fingerprint collation high in individual identifying capacity by designating small areas from fingerprint information and collating with other finger-print information basing on fingerprint rising line pattern existing in the areas and mutual positional relation. CONSTITUTION:Small areas A, B, C are designated in fingerprint information X. A small area having a pattern which is thought to be the same with a fingerprint rising line pattern existing in the small area A is searched from fingerprint information Y, and this is made A'. A small area having the same pattern with the small area B in information X is searched from information Y. At this time, the small area is searched basing on positional relation of small areas A, B in information X, and referring to the small area A' in information Y, and this is made B'. The same thing is performed for the small area C. Thus, search for small areas one by one is continued, and when all the small areas are correlated, information x and information Y are recognized as the same fingerprint information. Such a collating method of small areas can be realized by a simple processing system, and high in individual identifying capacity.
