PURPOSE:To provide a sliding member for an internal-combustion engine having wear resistance at a low cost by disposing a cast iron chip in the sliding part of a steel member, and irradiating a high density beam to the chip to remelt and harden the same thereby bonding both. CONSTITUTION:A cast iron chip 2 is placed on the sliding part (cam nose part) of a steel base material 1 forming a cam shaft, etc. A high density beam such as an electron beam, TIG arc or the like is irradiated to the chip 2 from a direction B to remelt the chip 2 so that the chip is chilled and hardened. The irradiation heat is, at the same instant, penetrated in the surface layer part of the material 1 to alloy the boundary part between the chip 2 and the material 1. A sliding member for an internal-combustion engine having high wear resistance is thus completed at a low cost. |
