Process for separating pollutants, for example nitrogen oxides, chlorine gas, hydrogen chloride, sulphur dioxide, indium chloride or hydrocarbons, from process gases in which the gas is passed into a bath of a pollutant-specific liquid or dissolved absorbent. Absorbent is sprayed in a small amount as a liquid phase into the process gas and is separated directly afterward, after being enriched with the pollutant, whereupon the process gas is brought into contact with a large amount of liquid absorbent having a low partial pressure of pollutant. In this case, prior to spraying the required amount of pure absorbent as liquid phase, an amount of absorbent sufficient to saturate the process gas with pure absorbent liquid is added to the process gas. The absorbent enriched with pollutants produced at the separator can be discharged and fed directly to a further processing step or it can be returned to the bath of the circulation vessel. The absorbtion is carried out in a lamellar separator having a built-in nozzle section.
