PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic fluid at low cost by a method wherein slurry consisting of converter dust is processed with mineral dressing, and after slurry consisting of finely divided particles is oxidized at the specified temperature to convert into magnetite, it is added to water or oil together with a non-floculative agent. CONSTITUTION:Converter dust is consisting of grit mainly consisting of mist and finely divided particles generated according to volatilization and condensation of ingot iron. FeO particles of grit are removed according to mineral dressing in the slurry condition as it is at first to make slurry consisting of only FeO particles of nearly 500Angstrom or less. Then after slurry thereof is oxidized, dried or oxidizingly roasted at the temperature of 570 deg.C or less, which is the temperature to form magnetite, it is added to water or oil together with noncondensable agent to make a colloid solution, and a magnetic fluid is obtained. Accordingly, the magnetic fluid can be obtained at low cost from converter dust equal to waste matter with respect to its value. |
