<p>An instrument for measuring e.g. the depth of periodontal pockets comprise a light source (109), an optical fiber (102) arranged to conduct light from the light source toward a free end (105) of the fiber to be inserted into the pocket to be measured, and a photo detector diode (114) arranged to detect light reflected back along the optical fiber wherein the free end of the optical fiber tapers. The instrument is also capable of measuring characteristics of liquids such as their content of light absorbent constitutents. </p> |
