A money box has a money collecting container (1) with a coin insertion aperture, and a lid which is provided, on tabs, with plug-in pegs which interact with corresponding recesses in the money collecting container (1) and form a first retaining device therewith. The money collecting container (1) further has locking projections which form one part of a second retaining device and which interact with locking recesses on the lid. In the assembled state, the two retaining devices hold the money collecting container (1) and the lid together and can be opened by means of a key, pegs arranged on the key being introduced into the recesses of the money collecting container (1) as a result of which the plug-in pegs of the lid arranged in the latter are brought out of engagement with the apertures of the money collecting container (1). Following this, the lid can be lifted off from the money collecting container (1), so that the money contained in the money box is freely accessible and, in particular, can be very rapidly removed therefrom when the lid has a shape corresponding to the money collecting container (1). <IMAGE>
