A jib-type hoisting device 10 has a hoisting block 22 which can be removed from its normal working position on hoisting rope 20' and positioned on a scaffold after the rope has been re-reeved about a pulley 26 provided rearward of the jib 15, 16 so that the device 10 can be bodily raised and lowered through the hoisting rope 20' by operating control lever 14 of powered winch 11 by means of a control rope 30.
