The essence of the method of determining the heat losses due to the incomplete combustion of a fuel is that samples of the combustion products of the fuel are continuously collected, the solid phase is separated from the gaseous phase, whose oxygen is used as an oxidising agent, and the concentration of the oxygen is determined. The decrease ( DELTA 1) in the oxygen after the combustion of the combustible gases is then determined. The gaseous phase is mixed with the solid phase and the decrease ( DELTA 2) in the oxygen after the combustion of the solid phase is determined. In addition, the decrease ( DELTA 3) in the oxygen during complete combustion of the fuel is determined, the heat losses due to the chemical unburnts during the combustion of the fuel are determined as the ratio ( DELTA 1/ DELTA 3) and the heat losses due to the mechanical unburnts are determined as the ratio ( DELTA 2/ DELTA 3). Also proposed is an apparatus for determining the heat losses due to the incomplete combustion of the fuel, which apparatus comprises a sampler (1) which is connected via a trap (9) to a furnace (4) for afterburning the sample. The furnace (4) is fitted with a heater (7) and means (8) for measuring the heat effect of the combustion reaction of the sample. The means (8) comprises an analyser block (18) for the oxygen concentration in the gaseous phase and indicators (19, 20) of the heat losses which via ...
