Equipment for filtering of cooling water flowing from power station condensers comprises a cylindrical sieve housing (1) enclosing a plurality of sieve portions (4) positioned obliquely to the direction of flow and located in different sections of the housing, each sieve portion being backflushed in turn by closing an upstream shutter 7, to stop the main flow to that housing section, and opening a corresponding valve 5 to discharge backflush water and debris. Each housing section may have its own shutter 7, combined with the corresponding discharge valve 5. Sieve portions may be pleated (Fig. 9 not shown).
