The method relates to the making of musical string instrument bows from high performance composite materials (carbon fibers). It consists in arranging longitudinally, within the cavities of two half chills moulds repeating the form of a model stick, beams (1) of carbon fibers imbedded in resin. The number and the lengths of the beams (1) are adjusted as a function of the desired elasticity of the stick. A cold curing resin system has been selected to avoid deformations due to firings. A central core of light material (balsa) (8) provides for the conformity with the mass requirements. The two elements of the stick are assembled by "cold" sticking under pressure with coating resin. The main advantages of such method are: palliative to the deficiencies of exotic woods; facility of implementation; accurate and continuous control of mechanical properties; higher general strength, and more particularly at the tip of the stick; good dimensional stability in the process of time. |
