The invention relates to a mantle block for a multi-shell chimney, having at least one duct which extends in the mantle block in the longitudinal direction thereof and is open, via a gap to the inner opening of the mantle block, the respective duct and optionally the associated gap preferably being used as a flow path for ventilation gas led in from outside and led away to the outside. According to the invention, on at least one face of the mantle block the transition from the face to the inner opening of the mantle block is constructed in a manner set back relative to the face. At least one throttle point narrowing the duct and/or the gap can also be constructed in the mantle block.
