PURPOSE:To obtain a sealed type lead storage battery that can be charged quickly without necessity of decreasing the charging voltage at the end of charge even during a charging process at a constant voltage increased by improving oxygen gas absorption performance at a cathode plate, by providing a retainer that makes a great number of acid-proof particles or fiber adhere to the surface at the side adjacent to the cathode plate. CONSTITUTION:One side of a 2mm. thick retainer 1, i.e. the surface that is adjacent to a cathode plate is coated for example, with an acrylic series adhesive agent and glass fiber 2 of 0.2-0.5mm. diameter and 1-5mm. length is made to adhere to it as uniformly as possible at a rate of approximately 20-100 pieces per 1cm<2> of the retainer 1. After the adhesive agent is dried and the solvent in the adhesive agent is evaporated, an assembled element formed by combining together two anode plates and three cathode plates using this retainer 1 is housed in the container, while applying a load of 10kg to both plates. As the result, even if a charge/discharge cycle subjected to high charging voltage in a short time is repeated, a sealed type lead storage battery that hardly loses electrolyte and its capacity and can be charged quickly can be obtained. |
