The lamp unit has the rectangular lamp glass fitted to the edge of the reflector or the lamp housing. The interior of the hollow space between the edge of the lamp glass and the edge of the reflector or the lamp housing communicates with the outside air to allow ventilation. The lamp glass (2) has a partition wall (6) at either side adjacent the shorter side edges (7) to obtain a rectangular chamber (8) separate from the interior (10) of the lamp having an opening near the bottom communicating with the outside air and an opening near the top communicating with the lamp interior (10).
