<p>The filter comprises a band of paper corrugated and/or fibrillated in the longitudinal direction, crimped laterally and put in rod form, the paper being produced on an inclined cloth machine from 1-25 mm long fibres and having a weight before corrugation and/or fibrillation of 12-40 g/sq.m. It is prepd. by forming the paper as above using a 0.008-1% paste of the fibres. The paper is then advanced continuously longitudinally through rollers having peripheral undulations followed by crimping advancing the paper laterally and forming a cylindrical roll which is continuously cut into sections. Incorporated in cigarettes, the filter gives a cigarette smoke with an excellent taste and the filter has a better combination of low pressure drop and hardness than can be currently attained, with a better tar retention.</p> |
